Sarah Geary Ceramics

Sarah Geary
Based in Banks Peninsula Canterbury, Sarah works from her studio making beautiful hand thrown ceramic pieces with rich glazes that echo the colours of the New Zealand landscape and coastlines. Her interest lies mainly with form and utility - the shape and lines of a vessel, how the piece sits on a surface and might feel resting in the hand. Her pieces are tactile, the forms classic. “My aim is to make honest pots that sit quietly, in harmony with their surroundings”.

More Info about Myself, History And My Motivation
I have a home studio in Charteris Bay where I work with clay. I’ve been potting for the last 12 years having previously spent 20+ years in London as a bespoke picture framer making decorative, hand gilded frames for many of the British galleries and museums. I favour artisan markets, most especially Encraftment to sell my work because I like the process of sharing the making process with people and because my work is tactile and made to be held it’s really important that people can interact with the work that they are drawn to and ask questions about individual pieces.
