What is The Encraftment Market?

Held twice a year in Christchurch, New Zealand; Encraftment Market is the place to shop for quality, NZ handmade craft and design.

Encraftment is a market that began in May 2011, not long after the Christchurch earthquakes. At a time when many small businesses had lost their usual places to trade, the market was a way to bring makers and the community back together. It offered local artisans a place to sell their work and gave people a chance to support handmade, all in one spot.

Over time, Encraftment has grown into a well-loved event, drawing thousands of people who come to browse, connect, and shop from a diverse range of local makers. It’s a place where quality craft, thoughtful design, and good food come together in a welcoming atmosphere.

We receive hundreds of applications from stallholders each year. Our selection process focuses on craftsmanship, ensuring each market offers a wide mix of handmade goods while staying true to our commitment to quality.

At its heart, Encraftment is still about the same thing it was in 2011: supporting local creativity and creating a space where the community can come together around the things that are made with care.
